  • Artist’s Statement

Inspired by gravity, momentum, and the human body. Carving stone is a physical process brought about by the movement of the sculptor; the act of moving of the tool to the stone and the movement of the stone to the tool. The way the body moves in the transitions from tool to stone is informed by the physical challenge of getting into the rock. The stone informs the sculptor in which ways the stone can be pushed to exaggerate volume, space, and a refined form, while still maintaining respect to the original material.
