  • Artist’s Statement

Kamela Daniels comes from a family of artists and musicians. Spending time in the forest and dockside with paints and sketchbooks, she also was a performing musician and vocalist from an early age. Whilst studying music in college, she continued to expand the full range of her artistic voice, taking art classes at every opportunity. When her children were very young, she found an evening welding class where she discovered her love of metalworking.

Her father was a Seattle based artist who regularly participated in First Thursdays in Pioneer Square, introducing her to the local art scene, gallery owners, and his circle of artist friends and professionals. He sat on the PRATT Fine Arts board and worked as a teaching artist. He shared his experiences as a professional artist, both positive and negative, with her throughout his career, which inspired Kamela to find creative ways to stay involved in our local art community and continue to advocate for artist's representation and career development. This desire to support artists led Kamela to become Julie Speidel's studio manager. In this position she managed a fabrication team, materials, logistics, worked alongside and contracted with local industry professionals, collaborated with other artists, and was the interface with the galleries that represented Julie's work. From this experience, she expanded her local network within the artistic community, and was inspired to create Catalyst Fine Art. She created this consulting firm and gallery as an opportunity for many of the established local artists to expand their visibility and to support the development of early and mid-career artists.

Kamela has designed and created sculptures utilizing both stone and various metals. Her sculptures range in size from small pedestal size to site specific, monumental, and include outdoor sculptural furniture. Her work can be found in private collections as well as available through Catalyst Fine Art.
