SUMMARY:Meet the artists - Steve Jensen\, Louise Mc Dowell and Shon Frostad
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an afternoon casual event to meet and visit with the three artists included in the “Voyager” exhibit in the Lower Gallery. Sunday\, December 17th from 2:30pm – 5:30 pm. \nSteve Jensen has been a working artist for over 40 years. His current body of work\, “VOYAGER” are boats that are meant to symbolize a voyage or journey\, perhaps it is the voyage to the other side\, or the journey into the unknown. This work was featured on Channel 9 “Art as Voyage” Steve Jensen’s Nordic Heritage and Amazon Prime\, “The Story of Art In America\,” episode 10 Steve Jensen 2023. \nLouise Mc Dowell has resided in Seattle for the last 50+ years and her ties to the PNW environment have continued to grow.  This affinity is reflected in her sculptures.  With bronze as her medium\, she has developed a large body of work found in public installations as well as numerous private collections. “My intention is to generate artwork that surprises\, delights and continually opens up new insights and unexpected avenues of understanding.  Interaction with the work happens on a personal level.  I seek to inspire observers and to stimulate imaginative thought\, smiles\, conversation\, as well as to affirm the human condition.” \nShon Frostad is a mixed media artist living in Tacoma WA\, with a lifelong history of painting and creating\, he studied art and environmental science\, earning a BS degree from the Evergreen State College. With a love for the Puget Sound\, the ocean\, and the marine world\, his panels reflect the ever-changing color tones\, and light intensities of the Pacific Northwest. Shon’s current body of work focuses the transformative organic processes of rusting and decay\, the corrosive forces of living marine organisms and the minerals of the sea and their effect on steel-hulled ships. The stresses that time\, sun\, salt and the living sea impart\, are illustrated in close-up detail\, the result being a collection of work that looks both abstract and realistic at the same time.
