Bird Making with Carolyn Autenrieth

Join us for this fun and engaging hand building workshop led by Catalyst Fine Art artist Carolyn Autenrieth. Ignite your imagination while you construct a pair of your very own personally inspired ceramic birds. No Experience Needed – All levels encouraged!

Learn various forming and smoothing techniques as you exercise your creative expression and design. We will explore several methods for creating surface texture from carving to embossing, using clay tools and everyday objects. You will be able to practice design strategies before applying them to your bird forms.

• Freeform ‘all over’ designs
• organized patterns or repeated designs
• curved or rounded designs
• angles or geometric designs
• balancing the carved areas with spaces left untouched
• Use hole cutters to create spaces and design
• Textures added or other shapes to enhance

After shaping your bird forms, you will choose from a selection of 5-6 glaze colors for your final finish. I will do the first fire (bisque) and then glaze and fire again with the color you select for the finish.

Workshop: February 22nd, 12:00 – 4:30pm at The Lodge at St. Edward Park.

Cost: $150 per person.

Completed pieces will be available for pick up on March 8th at The Lodge. Carolyn will be hosting a pop-up with more of her ceramics and porcelain works that day.

Come with a desire to explore and get a bit dirty.
