Sometimes we forget that everywhere is potential habitat for other denizens on this
planet. This bird for instance; some sort of seagull, perched placidly on a pilon, seems
oblivious to the fact that it resides near one of the largest man-made islands on the
planet: Harbor Island, created from the residue of the Jackson and Dearborn Street
Regrades, and the dredging of the Duwamish River. The bird also seems oblivious to
the fact that the Emerald City is the 4 th largest port in the U.S., something that the bird
and I had in common until but a few moments ago.
